The third installment of Dominic Chen’s series Fermentation and Generation: The “Beast Paths” — An Alternative to Information Technology, titled “AI That Encourages the Fermentation of Thought,” has been published in the web magazine Plain living, high thinking.
Starting from questions that surfaced after deleting accounts on major SNS platforms, the article sketches an alternative mode of connection envisioned as a “fermenting SNS.” Through the project Pickles—a service that combines journal writing with generative AI—it explores the potential of technologies that foster slow reflection over time, rather than the rapid diffusion of thoughts and memories. Interweaving experiences of personal loss with practices in educational settings, the piece reconsiders how AI might quietly accompany and support human thinking.
