In an era when generative AI can instantly produce words, how can we reconnect our own sensations and experiences with language? In this episode, through the design of the journaling support service “Oryzae,” we explore the process through which sensations become connected to words, drawing on the concept of “symbol grounding.” Words are not merely pieces of information; they become truly our own only when they take root in our personal experiences and bodily sensations. Against the “compression” of thought enabled by AI, what might it mean to cultivate words through a process of “ripening” — allowing them to mature slowly, like fermentation? This episode explores encounters with unnamed sensations that can only emerge by wandering, pausing, and walking the path with our own feet.
